“Staying Present to Stillness and New Imaginings”

A group show to celebrate the beauty of winter, as a time of rest and renewal at Elevation Gallery in Canmore. My painting “All That Wander” will be featured in this exhibition.

The show will run from February 18th – March 17th

ALL THAT WANDER – by Melanie MacVoy

I regularly escape to the old growth cedar forest near my home as a source for inspiration and rejuvenation.  Wintertime is especially unique because snowshoes enable one to wander off the beaten path in search of new curiosities.

Time is well spent revelling in the aged beauty of these gentle giants wrapped in their snowy white skirts.  I pause and circle each elder admiring their magnificent size and tri coloured bark interwoven with gnarly branches.

The undergrowth lies dormant beneath a thick blanket of snow insulating the forest from excessive noise.  You can hear every little sound or nothing at all.  Pure stillness pervades the atmosphere and my mind.  It is within this serenity that thoughts are processed and new possibilities imagined.
